About Flight Tracker Mach 2

What is Flight Tracker Mach 2?

Flight Tracker Mach 2 is a handmade ESP32-powered LED matrix display that tracks flights in real time. It pulls live ADS-B data to show planes flying overhead, lets you follow any flight by entering its flight number, and offers multiple display modes and scenes. Every unit includes free over-the-air updates so your display keeps improving after it arrives.

What's in the box?

Each Flight Tracker Mach 2 ships with:

  • 64x32 LED matrix display in a custom frame
  • ESP32-S3 controller board (pre-installed)
  • USB-C cable for setup and power
  • Quick start card with setup instructions

Plug the included USB-C cable into any standard 5V USB-C power source — no separate adapter required.

Is there a monthly subscription or ongoing cost?

No. Flight Tracker Mach 2 is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, no monthly fees, and no hidden costs. Flight data, OTA updates, and support are all included free for the life of your device.

What makes Mach 2 different from a DIY flight tracker build?

Mach 2 is a purpose-built product, not a kit. Key advantages:

  • ESP32-S3 instead of Raspberry Pi — faster boot, lower power, more reliable
  • Guided USB setup — no terminal commands or config files needed
  • OTA updates — new features ship automatically over Wi-Fi
  • Built-in settings dashboard — configure everything from a browser
  • Handmade and tested — every unit is assembled and quality-checked before shipping

What does "handmade" mean?

Every Flight Tracker Mach 2 is individually assembled, soldered, programmed, and tested by hand. These are not mass-produced — each unit is built with care and goes through a full quality check before shipping.

SETUP & CONFIGURATION

Getting Started

How do I set up my Flight Tracker?

Setup takes just a few minutes:

  1. Plug your Flight Tracker into your computer with the included USB-C cable.
  2. Open Chrome or Edge and go to setup.flighttrackerled.com.
  3. Click Connect Device, select your device, and follow the on-screen steps to connect to Wi-Fi.
  4. Once connected, open the device's IP address in a browser to set your location and customize your display.

No apps to download, no accounts to create, no Bluetooth pairing required.

Which browsers support Web Serial setup?

Chrome and Edge on desktop (macOS, Windows, or Linux) support Web Serial. Safari, Firefox, and mobile browsers do not support Web Serial. You only need a supported browser for the initial Wi-Fi setup — after that, you can access the settings dashboard from any browser on your network.

Can I set it up from my phone?

The initial Wi-Fi setup requires a desktop or laptop computer running Chrome or Edge (Web Serial is not supported on mobile browsers). However, once your Flight Tracker is on Wi-Fi, you can access the settings dashboard from any device on your network, including your phone or tablet.

How do I set my location?

After connecting to Wi-Fi, open the built-in settings dashboard in your browser. You have two options:

  • Search by address — Type your address, city, or ZIP code and the dashboard will automatically set your home coordinates with a 20-mile tracking area.
  • Custom area — Draw a rectangle on bboxfinder.com, copy the URL, and paste it into the dashboard for precise control over your tracking area.

You can also use preset buttons to quickly set a 20-mile or 40-mile tracking radius.

What if I change my Wi-Fi network or password?

If your Flight Tracker can't connect to its saved network, it will automatically re-enter setup mode. Just plug it into your computer via USB, go to setup.flighttrackerled.com, and enter your new Wi-Fi credentials. You can also use the Clear WiFi option on the setup page to manually reset the saved network.

FEATURES

Tracking & Display

Can I track a specific flight by flight number?

Yes. Enter any active flight number (e.g., UA123, BA456) into the settings dashboard and your display will follow that specific flight in real time, showing its position, altitude, speed, and route. When the flight lands or you clear the number, the display returns to showing overhead traffic.

How does overhead flight tracking work?

Your Flight Tracker continuously monitors live ADS-B flight data within your configured tracking area. It shows the closest flights to your home location, displaying details like airline, flight number, aircraft type, altitude, and speed. The display updates automatically as planes enter and leave your area.

What display modes and scenes are available?

Mach 2 comes with multiple apps, scenes, and display modes that you can switch between from the settings dashboard. These include different ways to visualize flight data, ambient display scenes, and more. New modes are added regularly through free OTA updates.

How do OTA updates work?

Your Flight Tracker checks for updates automatically over Wi-Fi. When a new update is available, it downloads and installs in the background — no action required on your part. Updates can include new display modes, performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features. There is no cost for updates, ever.

Can I adjust the brightness?

Yes. The LED brightness is fully adjustable from the settings dashboard. You can dial it down for a bedroom or turn it up for a bright room. The setting saves automatically and takes effect immediately.

Can I filter which flights appear?

Yes. The settings dashboard lets you set filters for altitude, distance, and aircraft type. This lets you focus on the flights you care about — for example, filtering out high-altitude overflights to see only planes arriving or departing nearby airports.
